Rates on shoots in southern Africa are frequently a third of what the same role earns in Europe on the same job, for the same client, on the same day. The justification offered is local market rate. There is no local market rate when the client is international and the invoice is in euro.

So we publish ours. Not as a moral position — as a practical one. A published rate cannot be negotiated downward in a phone call that the crew member isn't part of, and it removes the single most common way people get underpaid, which is not knowing what the person beside them is on.

Two consequences we should be honest about. Some jobs we don't get, because a competitor will quote the same film for less by paying less. And our quotes look expensive next to those. We'd rather explain that than explain the alternative.

Overtime is 1.5× after ten hours and 2× on a seventh consecutive day, and both are calculated automatically rather than at somebody's discretion. Expenses are billed at cost with receipts attached, with no agency mark-up.
